  • July 2004

    Construction of the mitigated site was completed between Jasmine Street and Atlantic Avenue and salt water was allowed to inundate the area

  • Summer 2006

    Vegetation impacts south of Jasmine Street were reported to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) FDOT reviewed conditions to determine cause

  • October 2006

    FDOT suspected that a mitigation site design error was causing the impacts FDOT began working with the community to develop a consensus on how to remedy the damages, began salinity monitoring south of Jasmine Street and initiated legal action against the design consultant

  • Spring 2007

    FDOT held public meetings on freshwater versus saltwater restoration

  • April 2007

    Fernandina Beach City Commission passed a resolution endorsing freshwater restoration

  • Spring 2008

    FDOT removed dead vegetation from Greenway that posed a potential safety hazard

  • Summer 2008

    FDOT constructed a tide barrier near Jasmine Street to prevent salt water from inundating wetlands south of Jasmine Street (first step of the restoration)

  • December 2010

    Lawsuit settled between FDOT and design consultant for design errors

  • Spring 2011

    FDOT developed initial tree removal and vegetation re-establishment plan (restoration plan)

  • Summer 2011

    Meeting held with Fernandina Beach city staff to discuss initial restoration plan

  • October 2011

    Updated Fernandina Beach City Commission on initial restoration plan

  • November 2011

    FDOT held public workshop to present concepts for the next step in the restoration process

  • December 2011

    Egans Creek website created to provide detailed information about FDOT’s goal

  • January 2012

    FDOT presented three alternatives at the Fernandina Beach City Commission meeting and recommended alternative two which is the aesthetic planting alternative

  • February 2012

    Fernandina Beach City Commission passed a resolution endorsing the recommended Alternative 2 – Aesthetic Planting
